White After Labor Day?

There's that silly time honored fashion rule that one shouldn't wear white after Labor Day.  This dates back as early as the 1900's, when the affluent would return from vacation and retire their white clothes once summer was over.  There was no real practical reason for the rich to follow this, but they continued following this "rule" to remain acceptable.

Of course with rules, there is always a rule breaker.  Coco Chanel famously wore white year round despite this rule,  and at a time when pale creamy skin was lauded as the epitome of beautiful skin, she would come back from vacation tanned and sun-kissed (also starting that trend too, by the way;)

I sort of understand why people would retire their white clothes after summer in places that actually have FOUR seasons.  Rain and winter slush would not be a good compliment to the otherwise perennial pair of white skinnies you can wear in say, sunny southern Cali.  If you live in a place that is constantly sunny and rarely rains, I say why let that silly (outdated) fashion rule dictate what you wear?  If you love white and you feel fabulous in it, then by all means wear it year round!

Here I am wearing white before Labor Day just so I can wear white again after Labor Day! Ha!

Hope everyone is having a great Labor Day weekend!!

Tribal Playset

One trend I'm loving this spring/ summer is the matching playset.  They're fun to wear together as a matching set, or wear separately to create many looks. Some of the fun ones I've seen have a cropped top and a high waist short, giving it a flirty summer vibe.  This one is by one of my favorite brands, Free People.  The side lacing detail and fun tribal print makes it perfect for vacation! What do you guys think???

I'm Just A Girl ( In Awesome Plaid Pants)

For as long as I can remember I've always wanted the perfect pair of plaid pants.  As a teen I've always admired Gwen Stefani: she was beautiful, fearless on stage, was an amazing songwriter and she had a kick ass sense of style.  I loved No Doubt and went to their every show.

When I saw these plaid crinkle pants by Free People, I immediately HAD TO HAVE THEM!!

Here I am wearing them casually...inspired by Gwen's style, no doubt. ( accidental pun that I'll totally say was intended ;)

But these pants are so versatile, you can wear it so many ways and they are so comfy!! Most likely I will do a future post on how I would wear them in a more feminine way.  But for now....

.....I AIN'T NO HOLLABACK GIRL!!!
